February is Library Lovers’ Month
February is Library Lovers’ Month and the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library is ready to celebrate! On Saturday, February 1, the library will join with libraries across the world to celebrate “Bring Your Child to the Library” Day. The full day of programming will begin with “Books and Bubbles” at 11 a.m. This program will be geared toward babies and preschoolers and will include stories, songs, and, of course, BUBBLES! A Teen Time “Scavenger Hunt” for 6th – 12th graders, will begin at 1 p.m., just after the library closes for the day. The fun-filled day will conclude with a “Library Sleepover” for all ages from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Families are invited to come in their PJs, bring their snuggly blankets, and cuddle up with a few good books, play games, or enjoy a movie. Don’t miss this chance to see what happens in the library after the light go out for the night!
The library will also host a writing contest for children, teens, and adults during the month of February. Write a poem, essay, or short story with the theme: “I love the library because…” Prizes will be awarded for various age groups and submissions will be posted in the library. While stories about Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library, including the original Carnegie Library, would be greatly appreciated, feel free to write about any library. Entries may be submitted through the library’s Facebook page, via email (email@example.com), via mail to 123 N. Main Street, Fitzgerald, GA 31750, or by dropping it off at the library. The deadline for entries is set for Friday, February 28.
The library will host a “Rocking in Our READ Shoes” reading challenge February 1st – 28th. Kids will have the chance to add shoes to “Pete the Cat’s” collection by checking out and reading 5 books. For every additional 5 books, a star will be added to decorate the shoe. Help make Pete’s collection the best around by reading books throughout the month!
The Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library would like to thank all the library lovers out there for providing continued, faithful support. Support from the community and our funding agencies, Ben Hill County and the City of Fitzgerald, makes it possible for the library to provide these and many other programs and services throughout the year.
